It’s time to get the Fred away

It’s time to get the Fred away

So it looks like the time has finally arrived!

I’ve started thinking about this trip in January, started announcing to my family, friends and coleagues in February-March, and since then I almost forgot I was about to leave…
Sure there were a lot of preparations, administartive stuff to do, as well as more exciting things to think about, but still, I’m currently sitting in front of the gate at the airport and don’t fully realize what I’m doing 🙂
Last couple of days were really intense, wishing farewell first to the most awesome coleagues (thanks a lot for the apero, the gifts, and the escort out of the building), then saying goodbye to all my friends, and much more, spending awesome time with them all!
And now this morning saying goodbye to my family at the airport… Lots of different feelings right now…

Anyway! Now over with the emotional stuff! Let’s talk about the fun part!
I’m flying off today to Asuncion, in Paraguay, where I’ll spend a few days. Then I’m planning to go to Aregua, small town close to Asuncion where I’ll spend a few days at a friend’s friend’s place.
The rest is still unplanned 🙂
Basic idea is to go from Paraguay to Iguazu falls, at the border with Brasil and Argentina, and from there go down to Buenos Aires. From Buenos Aires it’s easy to take a ferry and go to Uruguay, where I’ll try to learn how to surf and become the sexiest gringo on a surf board.
After that I have a flight from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia, at the end of the world on the 20th of December. I’ll spend Christmas there and for New Years some friends will join me! We’ll go up from Ushuaia to Chile to have a 5 days trek in Torres del Paine. After they leave, I’ll start going up through Chile.
There another friend will join me in the south of Chile, and we’ll try to go on an active volcan! Sounds awesome right? Then we’ll keep going north up to Santiago where I’ll be by myself again.
Then I don’t really know what I’ll do, probably go north up to Atacama and from there go to Bolivia through the Salar de Uyuni. In Bolivia I’ll go visit my family, and go through the whole country.

Okay so I’m actually writing this in the plane, don’t know when I’ll have the opportunity to post it, I hope they have wifi in Paraguay!

To continue about the trip, from Bolivia I’ll go to La Paz, and from there go to Cusco in Peru where I’ll meet an awesome friend! There we’ll probably do a few treks from Cusco, and then go down in Arequipa in Peru, and go back to the Titicaca lake in Bolivia.
After that I’ll be by myself again, and will make my way up north of Peru, going to Nazca to see the Nazca lines from a shaky airplane, then up to Lima, maybe with a short detour in the amazonian forest.
Then I’ll go to Ecuador where maybe another friend of mine will join me (here or later in Columbia). From Ecuador I’d like to go see the Glapagos Islands, I’ve heard so many things about them!
After that I’ll go to Columbia, try to have my own role in the next Narcos season 🙂
If I still have time I’ll try to keep pushing north in Central America, through Panama, Costa Rica and Nicaragua, where my return flight is taking off.

So eventually it looks like a lot of things are planned, but I’m really looking forward to see how improbable things will turn out 🙂
Because in the end that’s the goal of the trip, see new things, try new things and experience a different life than what we have here in Switzerland!

So yeah, I’ll try to keep posting a few articles and give some news from time to time!

Cheers to all and hasta la vista!

    There you go hombre! 🙂

I’m so glad you are taking the time to do this, and I wish you all the best for what is sure to become an unforgettable moment of your life.

    Take care and enjoy!

  2. Awesome stuff, Fred, I don’t think I am the only one super envious, and at the same time excited to follow your adventures (from an armchair).

Next Narcos season is being shot in Mexico, you may have to plan a detour. 😀
